THE LEONESE BOWLING

#pe#physicaleducation#pupulargames#león#elbierzo#ieslagandara

The Leonese bowling game is one of the most typical and popular sports originating in León, the province where we are from.

The playing field for this game is called "bolera," which consists of two well-differentiated parts: the fort and the playing field. The fort is a square with sides of 1.40 metres where the skittles are placed. On the other hand, the playing field is the area between the fort and the "mano" or the square where the player throws the ball.

Regarding the setup (set-up) of the game, nine 55 cm-long wooden skittles are placed on the fort, resembling the shape of a tic-tac-toe board. Two smaller skittles, called "miche," are also placed to the right and to the left of the first or second row of the fort, wherein (where-in) a complementary line is drawn from the "miches" to the side skittles or the "cincón."

In addition, a hemispherical wooden ball with a diameter of about 14 cm is used to knock down the skittles. The player must throw the ball by spinning it so that it crosses the fort, knocking down the "miche" or making it pass between the "miche" and the "cincón" but without touching the complementary line. The maximum score of 11 points is then achieved.
