“La llave” or the key game is a precision throwing game that is played in León, especially in the region of “El Bierzo,” where we live.
The game consists of two metallic materials:
- The key, as the element to be hit,
- And the “pellos,” these are iron or lead discs used as projectiles
It is a really popular game and it has many variants. In general, it can be played individually or by teams. The rules can vary from place place, but in our town, Toreno, we have the following rules:
- The key has to be 120 cm long.
- The key must have three blades.
- And the pellos have to weigh 200 g.
Also, the player gets to throw 10 pellos towards the key, and the score depends on the part of the key it hits:
- If the pello touches the smallest blade, the player gets 20 points.
- If the pello touches the middle blade, the player gets 10 points.
- If the pello touches the biggest blade, the player gets 5 points.
- Lastly, you can get 1 point if the pello touches the axis of the key.
