Leonese wrestling is one of the most typical sports in León, the province where we are from. One can enjoy this sport in different villages of the region every summer. Although it is not really a fashionable sport nowadays, there are still some clubs dedicated to practising and promoting this type of sport.

The players in Leonese wrestling fight in pairs. The fight takes place within a circle of about 17 meters in diameter.

The wrestlers must wear shorts and a t-shirt (or shirt?). They cannot wear shoes and are obligated to fight without socks. Characteristically, a 2 cm wide leather belt is worn by the players and this is placed around the waist and above the hips, so that it can be easily held by the opponent.

The objective is, through certain techniques, to have the opponent touch the ground with any part of the back (also known as a "fall"), with which one will obtain two points. If one can have the opponent touch the ground with his belly or arms (known as a "half fall"), one achieves only one point. A player may also receive two points if his opponent's belt has been removed, which is also considered as a "fall." The first player to get four points wins.
